The Mountain Clean-up Campaign 2023 led by Nepali Army successfully collected 35708 Kg of waste from Mt. Everest and other peaks jointly in collaboration with Unilever Nepal
The Mountain Clean-up Campaign 2023, an initiative led by Nepali Army jointly in collaboration with Unilever Nepal to clean up and remove waste and plastics from peaks like Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Annapurna, and Mt. Baruntse has concluded for this year on the 8th of Jestha, 2080 B.S.
The campaign had a goal of removing 35,000 Kg of waste and plastics from the peaks this year as “An Endeavor to Save the Himalayas.”, a goal that they were able to achieve recently.
Through this campaign, 35,708 Kg of waste was collected from the peaks this year. The collaborative efforts that had started on the 14th of Chaitra last year, along with the support of the locals and volunteers, were able to collect 13,621 kg of waste and plastic from the Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest)-Lhotse region, a further 3,567 kg from Annapurna and 18,520 kg from Baruntse, totaling to a combined 35,708 kg of wastage that was removed these regions.
At this event, Mr. Amlan Mukherjee, the Managing Director of Unilever Nepal said that Unilever Nepal takes pride in serving Nepal and the company feels honored with the opportunity to be a part of this collaborative effort with the Nepali Army, and adding value to these sustainability initiatives, along with many other supporters to this campaign.
The effort to reduce the effect of climate change in the region as well as to preserve the pristine nature of these important peaks has gotten a boost through these campaigns.
Unilever believes that efforts like these are a welcome change, and the impact they have on the betterment of the environment is something that should be supported and appreciated.
