30th November 2025, Kathmandu
Two young Nepali cybersecurity professionals have achieved significant global recognition, proving Nepal’s growing expertise in the highly specialized domain of cloud security.
Nepali Cloud Security Talent
Anubhav Ratna Dhakal and Ranjan Marasini have secured the 21st and 22nd ranks, respectively, among over 700 participants in the prestigious year-long Wiz Cloud Security Championship. This remarkable performance by Nepali Cloud Security Talent directly tackles the severe Cloud Security Skills Gap reported worldwide.
This championship focuses on deep-dive security challenges across major cloud platforms, including AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes, reflecting real-world threats. Their success validates the potential of Nepali youth in carving out lucrative careers in the international digital economy.
Conquering the Kubernetes Challenge
The competitive landscape of the Wiz Championship is rigorous. It challenges participants with monthly “Capture the Flag” (CTF) events, testing their knowledge of complex security vulnerabilities. Dhakal, competing under the handle xerox, and Marasini, using the name noob injected, initially struggled, ranking below the 70th position.
Their impressive surge into the Global Top 25 was driven by mastering one of the most demanding challenges: the Kubernetes security scenario.
Kubernetes, an open-source system for automating containerized applications, presents unique and complex security issues. Successfully solving this challenge demonstrates an advanced, practical understanding of cloud-native architecture—a skillset highly valued by global technology firms.
The competitive nature of these CTF events directly addresses the often-cited gap between academic theory and practical industry skills, preparing professionals for high-pressure, real-world cyber defense roles.
Securing Remote Global Opportunities
The championship offers more than just bragging rights and a WWE-style championship belt. It acts as a global recruiting ground, directly connecting top talent with leading cybersecurity firms.
Dhakal, a Cyber Security graduate from Islington College, has already leveraged his success into a professional role. He has secured remote work with Wiz, the organizing company, showcasing the potential for Nepali talent to enter the high-paying international job market directly from home.
Marasini, a student at Forbes College, Chitwan, continues his efforts, highlighting that practical competition experience can precede or run parallel to formal education. Their participation was particularly significant as only Dhakal and Marasini received the official, exclusive invitation from Nepal to the competition’s expert track.
Elevating Nepal’s Cybersecurity Profile
While Dhakal and Marasini lead the charge, other participants are also representing the country with distinction. Ushpal Phuyal (63rd) and Bidisha Subedi (207th) contribute to the visibility of Nepali skills on the international leaderboard.
This collective success underscores a critical message: Nepal possesses the raw intellectual capital to compete globally in niche, high-value tech sectors like cloud security.
This exposure encourages more young students and professionals to focus on advanced specializations, which are in extreme demand worldwide. The global shortage of qualified cybersecurity experts means competitive success translates directly into career advancement and higher pay.
Looking Ahead to the Top 10 Finish
The year-long competition began in June 2025 and will continue until May 2026. This extended format allows participants to refine their skills month-to-month and maintain consistency under pressure.
Both Dhakal and Marasini have articulated a clear goal: achieving a Global Top 10 finish. Their focus now shifts to the remaining challenges across various cloud domains, including the intricacies of AWS and GCP infrastructure security.
Their dedication serves as a powerful inspiration for Nepal’s entire ICT community. Continued success will not only bring personal accolades but also dramatically enhance Nepal’s reputation as a growing source for elite, world-class cybersecurity expertise.
