Nepali Internet Service Providers in the ‘Billion Club’

There are only two Internet service providers in Nepal that make billions of rupees.

According to figures from internet service providers approved by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority in the last fiscal year, only two major companies were able to earn billions.

WorldLink Communications Limited and Subisu Cable net. is the first internet service provider to submit NTA financial statements before mid-January.

Besides that, there are other internet companies that are earning crores. While several companies receive more than Rs 100 million, there are only two Internet service providers in the billion-dollar band.

WorldLink, which managed to make the most of its earnings in the last fiscal year of 2076/77, managed to gain Rs 2.95 billion.

Similarly, Subisu Cablenet, which is in second place, has earned Rs 1.42 billion.

Besides internet service providers in the billion-dollar group, Vinet Communications Pvt. Ltd. is in third place. It has been able to earn only Rs 801.236 million.

Of the billion clubs, World Link has the highest number of Internet service providers, the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund (RTDF), and royalties.

According to NTA, World Link remitted Rs 5,91,12,500 to the Fund at a rate of 2% of revenue and charged Rs 118,2 million to the Government for a 4 percent royalty.

On the other hand, Subisu, the second most profitable Internet service provider, charged Rs. 28.57 million to NTA and Rs. 57.014 million to the Government as royalties.

Looking at the MIS data up to October, it can be seen that WorldLink has managed to make the most of its consumers. The company has 4 lakh, 22 thousand 199 service recipients, up to that date.

Similarly, another firm, Subisu, managed to attract 1,68,890 customers by November.

All of these companies also provided wireless, cable, and fiber-based internet networks.

Apart from these two Internet service providers, only telephone operators have received billions of dollars.

To date, according to NTA, 127 Internet service providers have been granted permission.
