The win, secured yesterday at the Sodegaura Forest Raceway Circuit in Chiba, near Tokyo, marks a significant milestone for Thapa, who has been a pioneering force in the Nepali racing scene for years.
Thapa, a name synonymous with the early days of motorcycle racing in Nepal, successfully navigated the challenging 2,400-meter-long track, completing eight high-octane laps to emerge as the champion.
His performance was nothing short of dominant, as he outmaneuvered a field of 22 skilled competitors to secure the top spot in the fourth round of the club series. The victory was particularly sweet as it came in the categories for motorcycles up to 373cc single-cylinder or 250cc twin-cylinder, showcasing his expertise and adaptability on the track.
The victory resonates deeply within the Nepali racing community, both at home and abroad. Bikram Thapa’s journey began in Nepal through his association with Racemandu, a platform that he helped establish and which played a pivotal role in introducing and promoting motorcycle racing both nationally and internationally.
His impressive track record includes a collection of podium finishes in various Nepali racing events, as well as commendable performances on the global stage. Thapa has previously competed in prestigious events like the Asia Cup of Road Racing and the Suzuki Asian Challenge, where his skills garnered international attention.
His talent was recognized early on, and in 2014, he was selected from Nepal to participate in the prestigious FIA Young Drivers Excellence Academy training in Beijing, a testament to his exceptional potential and dedication.
This win in Japan is not Thapa’s first taste of success on foreign soil. In 2018, he had already proven his mettle by winning the Expert Class title in the TK Rental Bike Series, also held in Japan.
For nearly a decade, Thapa has been building a life and a career in Japan, where he is engaged in business. Alongside his professional pursuits, he has continued to passionately pursue his love for racing, establishing himself as a formidable presence on the Japanese racing circuits.
His commitment and consistent performance did not go unnoticed back home, and last year, the Nepal Automobiles Association honored him with the Champions Award, a fitting recognition of his contributions to the sport.
Thapa’s recent win carries an added layer of significance, as it comes at a time when the Nepali diaspora in Japan is growing, with an increasing number of motorsports enthusiasts emerging from the community.
Recognizing this burgeoning passion, Bikram Thapa shared a groundbreaking development. Starting last month, he is leading the charge to formally launch the “Moto-JapNepal” Club, with a presence in both Nepal and Japan.
This initiative aims to create a formal platform to connect Nepali racing enthusiasts, provide support, and further promote the sport among the Nepali community in Japan and beyond.
Bikram Thapa’s victory is more than just a personal triumph; it is a source of inspiration and pride for the entire Nepali nation. It showcases the immense talent that exists within the country and demonstrates that with dedication and perseverance, Nepali athletes can achieve success on any stage.
His win in Japan and his vision for the Moto-JapNepal Club pave the way for a brighter future for Nepali motorsport, building bridges and fostering a community united by a shared passion for speed and racing.
