The National Assembly of Nepal has approved five significant ordinances aimed at enhancing governance, public service delivery, and economic reforms.

The ordinances were passed on Wednesday with the support of the Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, which holds three seats in the Assembly. The approval was granted by a majority vote.

Key Ordinances Passed by the National Assembly

The approved ordinances introduce crucial amendments in multiple sectors, contributing to Nepal’s economic and administrative framework. These include:

Financial Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility Amendment – Aimed at improving financial management and ensuring fiscal discipline.

Privatization Reforms – designed to streamline government-owned enterprises and attract private-sector investments.

Economic and Business Environment Improvement – Focused on encouraging investment, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and fostering economic growth.

Public Service Delivery Enhancement – Measures introduced to make government services more efficient and transparent.

Cooperative Sector Reform – The ordinance, issued on December 29, 2024, aims to modernize and regulate cooperatives for better governance and accountability.

What’s Next?

With these five ordinances now approved, the government expects that other pending ordinances will also be passed smoothly, except for the land ordinance, which was introduced just two weeks before the parliamentary session.

The passage of these ordinances is seen as a positive step toward improving Nepal’s investment climate, ensuring economic stability, and reinforcing good governance.
