For the first time in Nepal, a factory producing international-quality fiber cement boards has officially come into operation. With an investment of NPR 1.5 billion by the IME Group, the Everest Fiber Cement Board Industry was inaugurated today.
Nepal’s First Fiber Cement Factory
During a formal program held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, inaugurated the factory and officially launched the fiber cement boards and the range of products made from them.
In his address, Minister Bhandari stated that the establishment of a high-quality, environmentally friendly, and technologically advanced industry within Nepal marks a significant step in the country’s industrial development. He emphasized that this industry will not only serve as an import substitute but also guide the construction sector toward sustainable development, assuring continued government support for production-oriented investments.
Also speaking at the event, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Chairman of IME Group, said that the new industry has been established to contribute to Nepal’s construction sector by using domestic raw materials and local resources.
He highlighted that the industry will generate employment within the country and, since the products are domestically made, it will reduce dependency on imports and help conserve foreign currency—thus paving the way toward a self-reliant economy. He added that the industry sends a clear message that international-standard construction materials can be produced in Nepal through local skills, resources, and potential.
Established under the IME Group with an investment of around NPR 1.5 billion, the factory is located in Fatwa Bijaypur Municipality–6 of Rautahat District. The entire production process—from raw material mixing to board cutting, pressing, and drying—is based on fully automated technology. The industry has a daily production capacity of 75,000 square feet of fiber cement boards.
The boards produced here are available in dimensions of 4 feet in length, 8 feet in width, and thicknesses ranging from 4 mm to 30 mm. These boards are flexible, fire-resistant, weatherproof, eco-friendly, and highly durable.
Fiber cement boards are used for external wall cladding, partitions, false ceilings, modular kitchens, eco-panels, and various other structures. They can even replace bricks and plaster to build full structures, which can be completed within 10–15 days. Due to these advantages, the demand for such boards is rapidly increasing both in Nepal and international markets.
In times of natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, or landslides, the fiber cement boards produced by this factory can serve as a quick, cost-effective, and sustainable solution for emergency shelters. Since these boards require no plaster or painting, they also save significant time and cost in construction.
The factory emphasizes local employment promotion. Currently, around 200 people are employed, either directly or indirectly. Notably, over 98% of the workforce is from the local community, and more than 40% are women workers.
These employees are engaged in all tasks—from processing to packaging. Everest Fiber Cement Board Pvt. Ltd. aims to make a significant contribution to the construction sector through its eco-friendly, high-quality, and competitive products.
