Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel highlighted the government’s steps to improve Nepal’s economy.
Nepal’s NPR 1.5 Trillion Infrastructure
He spoke at the 44th Annual General Meeting and National Management Conference of the Nepal Management Association (NMA). Paudel emphasized the promotion of public-private partnerships and increased private sector investment.
Collaboration Is Key for Economic Progress
Minister Paudel called for efforts from all sectors to strengthen the country’s economy. He stressed that both public and private sectors must work together to overcome challenges. The conference featured a presentation on infrastructure financing by Krishna Prasad Acharya. Sushil Ghwali, CEO of the Investment Board Nepal, and economist Bishwas Gauchhan also contributed insights.
Focus on Resource Mobilization
Discussions at the conference involved enhancing project implementation and resource mobilization. National Insurance Authority Chairman Madan Dahal, Employees Provident Fund Administrator Jitendra Dhital, and others participated in the dialogue. They emphasized the importance of preparing bankable and reliable infrastructure projects.
Investment Potential in Long-Term Funds
Nepal’s long-term funds, such as the Citizen Investment Fund, Employees Provident Fund, and others, hold over NPR 1.5 trillion. A large portion of these funds can be directed toward infrastructure projects. Among these, NPR 800 billion is invested in retirement funds. This amount grows every year, making it a key source for infrastructure development.
Current Investment in Infrastructure Remains Low
Currently, only 8% of long-term funds are allocated for infrastructure. The Employees Provident Fund has the highest share, with 16.5% invested in energy, real estate, and tourism. The Life Insurance Fund has invested a minimal amount in infrastructure, indicating room for more investment.
Need for Portfolio Diversification
NMA President Mohan Raj Ojha stressed the need for diversifying investment portfolios. Institutions managing long-term funds should invest more in infrastructure. This strategy would boost national production and create jobs.
Urmila Shrestha Wins Manager of the Year Award
Urmila Shrestha, CEO since 2007, was awarded the “Manager of the Year Award” by the NMA for her exceptional leadership.
Government’s Commitment to Infrastructure Development

He called for collaboration between the government and the private sector to drive economic growth. The event underscored the need for continued investment in infrastructure to support Nepal’s future development.
