Nepal’s Private Sector Gen-Z Movement
Representatives from leading business associations, including the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), and other key organizations, met in Kathmandu to discuss a roadmap for economic recovery.
The high-level discussion, initiated by FNCCI Executive Member Shiva Prasad Ghimire, focused on the aftermath of the recent Gen-Z movement, which caused substantial disruption and financial losses to businesses. Participants expressed that while the protests led to significant damage, the government’s swift response in reopening trade checkpoints demonstrated that decisive state action can effectively resolve business-related issues.
Key Outcomes and Future Strategies
Unified Front
The meeting culminated in a strong commitment from all participating organizations to act as a united front, ensuring a collective and powerful voice in economic policy-making.
Youth Integration
A key focus was the agreement to actively involve young entrepreneurs in business policy formation, ensuring that the private sector’s strategies are forward-looking and representative of the next generation.
Reconstruction and Security
Business leaders agreed to provide full support for reconstruction efforts and highlighted the need for a comprehensive security plan to protect private property and rebuild investor confidence, which they argue is essential to prevent unemployment.
Promoting Nepal Globally
The participants underscored the importance of boosting exports, protecting the tourism sector, and promoting Nepal as a safe and reliable destination for international business and travel.
A detailed report from the discussion, which includes suggestions for government action and possible solutions to existing challenges, is being prepared for submission to the government. This collective effort is seen as a crucial step toward rebuilding trust and security within the business community and guiding the country toward a more stable and prosperous economic future.
The event, which saw the participation of over 300 business professionals, highlights the private sector’s dedication not only to its own interests but to the broader socio-economic health of Nepal.
