Education is a powerful tool that shapes the future of individuals and nations. In today’s fast-changing world, having access to quality education is essential. It opens doors to new opportunities and plays a key role in a country’s development.

NIMB Education Loan Nepal

Recognizing this need, NIMB Bank has launched the NIMB Education Loan—a special loan facility created to support Nepali students who aim to study in well-recognized educational institutions both in Nepal and abroad.

This initiative reflects NIMB’s broader mission: “Shikshit Nepali ko Lagi Hamro Abhiyan, Gunastar Shikshya ma Hamro Nirantar Yogdan”—meaning “Our Campaign for Educated Nepalese, Our Continuous Contribution to Quality Education.”

Financial Support For Major Educational Costs

The NIMB Education Loan is designed to cover almost all the significant expenses that come with pursuing higher education. This includes tuition fees, exam fees, library charges, and even daily living costs while studying. However, the loan does not cover travel expenses or costs related to the applicant’s spouse or dependents.

This loan is ideal for students who have already secured admission into registered institutions offering undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, or diploma programs. Whether students want to study inside Nepal or in a foreign country, NIMB ensures the financial support they need is within reach.

Who Can Apply For The Loan?

The NIMB Education Loan is available to all Nepali citizens who plan to pursue higher education or professional courses. The eligibility requirements are simple:

The applicant must be at least 18 years old.

The maximum age allowed is 70 years.

If the loan is taken jointly (with a co-borrower), at least one of the borrowers must fall within this age limit.

This loan is especially useful for students who wish to study abroad and can prove their repayment capacity. Those with strong collateral backing are more likely to receive approval.

Loan Amount, Coverage, And Repayment Flexibility

NIMB offers one of the most flexible and high-value student loan facilities in Nepal. Students can borrow up to NPR 10 million or 80% of the total eligible education-related expenses, whichever is lower.

The repayment schedule is highly flexible:

Minimum loan tenure: 1 year (excluding the moratorium period)

Maximum loan tenure: 15 years

Moratorium period: Duration of the course plus six additional months (applicable for postgraduate and professional programs)

This grace period allows students to focus on their studies without the stress of immediate repayment. Once the moratorium ends, they can begin repaying the loan in manageable installments.

Collateral And Loan Security

To secure the loan, applicants need to provide fixed asset collateral. NIMB offers favorable terms for this:

Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio of up to 100% of the Fair Market Value (FMV) of the collateral

Alternatively, 100% of the distress value may be considered

This means that students and their families can secure the loan without worrying about being undervalued on their property.

Interest Rate And Repayment Methods

The interest rate for the NIMB Education Loan is calculated based on the Base Rate plus a Premium, which can be fixed or floating. The interest is calculated daily on the remaining loan balance, ensuring transparency.

Repayment can be made in:

Equated Monthly Installments (EMI) or

Equal Quarterly Installments (EQI)

Installments are due on either the 1st or 20th of each month as per the Gregorian calendar. NIMB also gives borrowers the flexibility to make changes to their college or course after the loan is approved, subject to the terms of the offer letter. A swap facility is also available, which allows switching between courses or institutions.

Simple And Transparent Loan Application Process

Applying for the NIMB Education Loan is simple and efficient. NIMB carefully evaluates the applicant’s credit history and follows all regulations set by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). Loan processing charges vary based on the Standard Tariff Charges (STCs) issued by the bank.

Students can apply at any NIMB branch across Nepal. For dedicated help, the Kamaladi Branch (Rising Mall) serves as a specialized Education Loan Hub, offering expert guidance on documentation and the entire loan process.

NIMB also provides an EMI Calculator to help students and families estimate how much they can borrow based on their monthly income.
