The American Film Market (AFM), a global hub for filmmakers, distributors, and investors, has long been one of the most significant gatherings in the film industry.
Nishan Ghimire Showcases Nepali Film Industry
This annual event, recognized as the world’s largest motion picture trade fair, draws thousands of creative professionals and industry leaders from over 80 countries. In 2024, the AFM held its 45th edition from November 5th to 10th at the Palm Casino Resort in Las Vegas, a city famous for its vibrant culture and entertainment.
The event featured over 100 speakers, covering essential topics like film financing, production, distribution, new technologies, AI, film streaming, and storytelling. It serves as a premier platform for networking, where participants can watch, buy, and pitch new film projects, as well as explore investment opportunities. Last year alone, the market saw film license deals exceeding $1 billion, with expectations for even more substantial growth this year, according to AFM CEO Jean Prewitt.
Nepal’s Representation by Nishan Ghimire
Representing Nepal at the AFM this year was acclaimed editor and filmmaker Nishan Ghimire. Known for his expertise in editing both films and music videos, Nishan is a celebrated figure in the Nepali film industry. Through his company, Rad Studio, Nishan showcased the unique qualities of Nepali cinema, emphasizing the country’s rich storytelling traditions, advanced technology, and picturesque filming locations.
During his time at the AFM, Nishan had fruitful meetings with prominent industry players, including Italian Art Video creators, Nevada Film officials, the British Virgin Islands Film Commission, Tokyo Film Commission, West Virginia Economic Development team, and notable filmmakers from Hollywood, Bollywood, Turkey, and China. The discussions centered around Nepal’s cinematic storytelling potential, technical advancements, and the scenic beauty that makes the country a compelling filming destination. Nishan shared that the international interest in Nepali film projects was promising, and he plans to apply his experiences to future endeavors.
