NRB to Implement Two-Day Weekly Holiday For All Banks and Financial Institutions
6th April 2026, Kathmandu
The regulatory body, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), has officially instructed all Banks and Financial Institutions (BFIs) to implement the government’s decision to provide two days of weekly holidays.
Following this directive, banks across Nepal will now remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Applicability: The instruction applies to all Class ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘D’ financial institutions, Nepal Infrastructure Bank, and Nepal Clearing House.
New Office Hours: To compensate for the Sunday holiday, banks will now operate from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Effective Implementation: The move aligns with the government’s recent policy aimed at reducing fuel consumption and operational costs.
While physical branches will remain closed for two days, customers are encouraged to utilize digital banking platforms, ATM services, and online clearing systems, which will continue to function.
This shift marks a significant change in the Nepalese banking sector’s traditional six-day work week.
