Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), urged Non-Resident Nepalese (NRNs) to invest in major infrastructure projects in Nepal.

He made this appeal during the ‘NRNA Global Conclave’ held in Kathmandu, organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). The event focused on creating policies and platforms to encourage diaspora investment.
Dhakal highlighted the important role the Nepali diaspora can play. He said the diaspora has expertise, innovation, and capital that Nepal needs. He called for unity among NRNs to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development. “NRNA should stand united,” he said. “Division weakens us. We need to work together to support Nepal.”
FNCCI Supports NRN Issues but Stresses Responsibility
Dhakal acknowledged the efforts FNCCI has made to support NRN concerns. However, he also reminded the diaspora to balance their rights with duties toward Nepal. He shared his personal experience of hearing negative remarks about Nepal while traveling abroad. “Compared to countries like the USA, Australia, and South Korea, Nepal’s development is behind,” he said. “But constant criticism will not help.”
He encouraged NRNs to focus on building a shared vision for Nepal’s future. “We need to use our skills, capital, and experience to help Nepal grow,” Dhakal said. He stressed that the diaspora has a unique opportunity to contribute to the country’s progress.
Challenges in NRN Investments Highlighted
Although NRN Investment Companies exist in Nepal, Dhakal noted some challenges. Ownership changes and management issues have affected performance. Some companies failed to provide expected returns. Dhakal urged stakeholders to refocus these companies on their original goals. “These companies must work effectively to benefit Nepal and NRNs alike,” he said.
Meanwhile, FNCCI has taken new steps to boost infrastructure development. The organization has launched the Nepal Development Public Limited Company. This company has a capital of NPR 1 billion and focuses on infrastructure projects. Dhakal invited NRNs to participate as investors. He said this was a good opportunity for the diaspora to contribute to Nepal’s growth.
A Call for Unity and Partnership
Dhakal emphasized Nepal’s vast potential for development. He asked NRNs to join hands with the government and the private sector. Together, they can unlock Nepal’s opportunities. “The diaspora can be a major force for progress,” he said. “But we must act as one team.”
He added that a shared vision and cooperation would accelerate Nepal’s development. NRNs have the experience, knowledge, and resources to make a difference. Dhakal urged them to be proactive and work for Nepal’s prosperity.
Diaspora Investment: A Key to Nepal’s Growth
The conclave provided a platform for dialogue among policymakers, business leaders, and diaspora representatives. They discussed ways to create a favorable environment for diaspora investments. Dhakal’s message stood out as a call for action. He urged the global Nepali community to channel their strengths for Nepal’s transformation.
In conclusion, Dhakal’s appeal stresses unity, responsibility, and active participation. He believes the diaspora’s involvement can fast-track Nepal’s journey toward becoming a prosperous nation.
