NRNA Australia Election 2025
During the press conference, Anil Pokharel, President of NRNA Australia, outlined important details about the election and the new changes in the organization.
Key Roles and Leadership Changes
In preparation for the election, Dilliram Dhakal, a member of the International Coordination Council (ICC), has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. Additionally, Raju Upadhyay from Adelaide will serve as the Deputy Election Commissioner.
The state coordinators have also been named:
New South Wales – Raju Manandhar
Victoria – Hem Dulal
Queensland – Suresh Khatri
South Australia – Ankur Upadhyay
Western Australia – Rabin Bartaula
Tasmania – Kanchan Aryal
ACT (Australian Capital Territory) – Krishna Subedi
Northern Territory – Dinesh Sapkota
Pokharel explained that discussions with the election commission and NRNA are ongoing to finalize the committee members.
Changes in NRNA Australia’s New Constitution
The election will be held under NRNA Australia’s newly updated constitution, which introduces several important structural changes:
Four key positions will be elected: President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Treasurer.
The position of Vice President previously held by state coordinators will be abolished. Instead, they will remain as coordinators but hold a lower rank than the Treasurer.
The board size will increase from 17 members to 19, with the addition of a Vice President and a Principal Grant Officer.
Membership Fee Revision and Updates
The membership fee for NRNA Australia has been revised. The new fee structure is as follows:
The regular membership fee has increased from AUD 25 to AUD 30.
The lifetime membership fee has been set at AUD 250.
Pokharel stressed that members must update their details, including contact information and addresses, to ensure smooth election processes. Additionally, lifetime members will be required to renew their membership details before every election to ensure they stay updated.
The existing policy regarding “maximum four memberships per credit card” will remain in place. This is intended to prevent misuse of the membership registration system. Pokharel confirmed that the election commission is working to strengthen this policy further.
Membership Registration and Deadline
Membership registration is ongoing, with the deadline set for June 6, 2025. Pokharel shared that updates on the registration process will be provided every two days. As of the previous term (2023-2025), the total number of members was 15,416. This year, the membership count is expected to rise.
To become a member, individuals must have lived in Australia for at least two years, excluding those on student or tourist visas. Temporary residents, permanent residents, and citizens of Nepali origin are eligible to apply for membership.
Membership registration and renewals must be completed through the Smart NRNA mobile application, which simplifies the process for everyone.
President’s Call to Action
In his address, President Pokharel encouraged all Nepali residents in Australia to join NRNA Australia. He urged them to become members and take an active role in the organization. He emphasized that NRNA Australia remains committed to transparency and fairness in all electoral processes.
Board and Election Details
The NRNA Australia executive term lasts for two years. The new board structure and positions will help ensure a more effective and organized leadership going forward. The members of NRNA Australia have expressed their expectations for a smooth election process and hope to achieve even higher participation rates this time.
In the press conference, key members of NRNA Australia were present, including Gyanendra Regmi, Secretary of ICC, Vinod Kuwar, Coordinator for New South Wales, Arjun Gautam, Treasurer, and Suman Bohara, Youth Coordinator.
