In a highly anticipated and actively participated election, Rajendra Poudel has been elected as the new President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) UK.

His victory, announced following the election held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, marks a significant moment for the Nepalese diaspora community in the United Kingdom. Poudel emerged victorious after a robust contest against two formidable contenders, Govinda Kharel and Manish Khatri.
A Decisive Mandate: Election Highlights
Rajendra Poudel secured a strong mandate, garnering a total of 1,482 votes. His closest rival, Govinda Kharel, received 977 votes, while Manish Khatri obtained 496 votes. The election witnessed an impressive voter turnout, with 3,012 individuals casting their ballots, representing 86.03% of the total 3,501 eligible voters. This high participation rate underscores the commitment and engagement of the Nepalese community in the UK in shaping their representative body.
Key Leadership Positions Filled
Beyond the presidential race, other crucial leadership roles within NRNA UK were also decided:
Vice Presidents: Ujjwal Karki and Dr. Raksha Thapa were elected as Vice Presidents, securing 1,884 and 1,727 votes, respectively. Their strong performance reflects the trust placed in their leadership by the voters.
Vice President (Scotland): Ram Prasad Kandel emerged victorious as the Vice President representing Scotland, with 1,608 votes.
General Secretary: Diwakar Pandey was elected as the General Secretary, securing 1,660 votes.
Open Secretaries: DN Kharal and Krishna Devkota were elected as Open Secretaries, receiving 1,879 and 2,309 votes respectively.
Rajendra Poudel: A Veteran in Community Service
Rajendra Poudel brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the Nepalese community’s needs to his new role. Having resided in the UK for over 25 years, he hails from ward 2 of the former Jiling Village Development Committee (now ward 8 of Belkotgadhi Municipality), Nuwakot, Nepal.
Professionally, Poudel has dedicated the past 15 years to serving in the UK’s vital healthcare sector, demonstrating his commitment to public service. His extensive involvement in various social organizations within the UK is particularly noteworthy. He has served two terms as the General Secretary of the Yeti Nepali Association UK, held the presidency of the Pravasi Nepali Manch UK, and has offered his expertise as an advisor in multiple institutions. Furthermore, his previous tenure as a member of the NRNA International Committee for the 2021–2023 term provides him with invaluable experience in the broader NRNA framework.
Poudel’s election as NRNA UK President is anticipated to usher in a new chapter of enhanced community engagement, advocacy for Nepalese in the UK, and strengthened ties with Nepal. His proven track record in community leadership and his professional background are expected to contribute significantly to the NRNA UK’s mission and objectives.
