Under the Broadband project being constructed by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, the tender process has been started for five different districts across the country. NTA has issued tender on Friday to provide internet through the optical fiber and microwave technology in Dang, Banke, Bardia, Kailali, and Kanchanpur in the Province 5.

Earlier, the tender application given by the internet service providers WorldLink, Vianet and Tech Mind for the project was canceled. The project costs around one billion rupees. About 2600 km of an optical fiber network will be constructed under this section of expansion. NTA is planning to construct this project using the funds available under the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund designated by the authority.

NTA is building this project in accordance with the government’s goal of providing speedy internet access to municipalities, ward offices, community secondary schools and community health institutions and centers across the country. The project was started by making 18 different packages. Under this, 10 packages have been completed while 8 are still remaining.

Similarly, under the optical fiber project being constructed by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, the tender process has been started for four different districts. NTA has sought tender for the installation of optical fiber in Arghakhanchi, Pyuthan, Palpa, and Gulmi of the Province 5.

The expansion of the optical fiber networks to the rural areas of Nepal, especially at governmental offices is a good sign for the digital Nepal campaign being run by the government. Once the projects under the scheme are completed, the offices will have possibly uninterrupted access to high-speed internet.
