QR stands for Quick Response code. Denso Wave, a Toyota subsidiary, developed it in 1994 as a type of two-dimensional barcode.

A smartphone or a QR code reader can rapidly read QR codes. And can contain a variety of information, such as website URLs, contact information, product information, and more.

It consists of black and white modules arranged in a square grid pattern on a white background. The amount of data that a QR code can hold depends on the size of the code. The number of modules it contains, and the encoding scheme used. QR codes can be generated with a variety of applications and online tools. And can be printed on many different surfaces, including paper, stickers, and even physical goods.

QR codes are widely used in the marketing, advertising, and retail industries. Because they offer a simple and quick method to connect with customers and share information. They are also used in transit systems, ticketing systems, and payment systems. Furthermore, it can be used for contactless payment, access management, and identification.

‘Numbering system’ with navigation started in Dhulikhel, one can reach the house by scanning QR

Dhulikhel municipality has started using a navigation-based house numbering system. With the financial and technical support of the Urban Development Fund, as a pilot project, the municipality has started implementing digital numbering with QR codes in households.

Municipality Mayor Ashok Kumar Benju Shrestha informed that under the pilot project, all 1236 houses of Ward No. 4 have been provided navigation-based numbers with QR codes on Wednesday.

“We received financial and technical assistance of 15/16 lakh rupees from the Urban Development Fund and the UN CDF for this,” he said, adding that “in other wards, the municipality will implement the numbering system from its internal resources, which we estimate will cost 40 to 50 lakh rupees.” This is a model project of Nepal.”

According to Municipal Engineer Hariram Humagain, there is a plan to complete the numbering of Ward No. 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 in the current fiscal year and the remaining Ward No. 10, 11, and 12 in the next fiscal year 2080/081.

Jio Service Nepal and Cloud Tech Technology are working jointly on a navigation-based numbering system. Managing Director of Jio Service Nepal Gokul Bhandari said that the work for this has been started in the last four months.

According to him, this system of determining the house number by measuring the distance of a road is based on the metric. Odd numbers are allocated for the houses on the left side of the road. And odd numbers are allocated for the houses on the right side.

Bhandari said that when a new house is added, a new number will be provided.

Along with the number, a QR code is also placed in the house. It is said that by scanning the QR code, in case of an accident or emergency. It will be easy to reach the fire engine, ambulance, and police in other situations. The location of the respective house is placed in the QR, which opens Google navigation when scanned.

For the numbering system, at first, a drone survey of every house is done and tracing those houses in the picture. Distance between roads and houses is measured by a speedometer. And all house numbers are prepared through GIS in the web app. Based on the numbers prepared in this way, other statistics are also collected.

The details of how many floors the house has, how many rooms there are, what it is made of, what purpose it is for, whether the map has been passed or not, the details of the owner of the house and his citizenship and family members are kept. In addition, information about whether there are facilities like water, electricity, etc., and the condition of the nearby roads, etc. are also included.

Furthermore, In this way, a web app with house numbers and digital information has been created and given to the municipality. All such information is not public online. Only the house number and QR code are public.

It is expected that it will be easier for the local government to collect tax based on the house number, to check non-payment of tax, and to plan urban development.
