One-Day Film Workshop Boosts Student Engagement & Nepali Cinema Awareness

Janachetana Nepal, with vital support from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Film Development Board, successfully hosted the “One-Day Film Workshop 2082 with Student Participation.”

Held on Friday, Asar 27, at Shree Bhimsen Gola Secondary School, the event aimed to nurture interest in filmmaking among young Nepalese.
The workshop kicked off with a screening of “Kuritilai Panchhyaundai” (Removing Social Evils), a public awareness song by Janachetana Nepal Chairperson Bal Krishna Niraula, with lyrics by Bipin Kiran, and voiced/composed by Babu Bogati. Poet Suraj Parajuli also presented a related poem, setting a thought-provoking tone.
Insights from Industry Veterans
Chaired by Bal Krishna Niraula, the workshop featured veteran actor and director Ashant Sharma as chief guest. Sharma engaged with students, answering questions on the distinctions between theater and cinema, technical aspects of both, the role of technology in filmmaking, and the history of cinema both in Nepal and globally. He also shared valuable insights into acting techniques and the challenges within the performing arts.
Distinguished guests, including actress Muna Niraula Tripathi, senior advocate Basudev Rizal, and actor Kavindra Tripathi, also shared their experiences, enriching the students’ understanding of the industry. The active involvement of school principal Balram Paudel and teachers Navaraj Neupane and Ganesh Pahari further enhanced the educational impact of the program.

During the event, Chairperson Bal Krishna Niraula lauded the significant strides made by the Film Development Board under Chairman Dinesh DC’s leadership, acknowledging the guidance of his mentor Mohan Niraula.

Establishment of a Script Museum: A dedicated space for the invaluable art of screenwriting.
Declaration of “Capacity Enhancement Year for Filmmakers”: Focusing on skill development and professional growth within the industry.
Honoring of 25 Highest-Grossing Nepali Films: Recognizing commercial success and artistic merit.
These initiatives underscore a concerted effort to support, promote, and preserve Nepalese cinema for future generations.
