Orientation To District ICT Education Officials At Baitadi

The process of introducing the laptop base teaching program formally began in Baitadi with the orientation of district officials at the District Education Office (DEO). The program took place at the DEO office, was attended by Chief of Baitadi DEO Mr. Lal Singh Ter, WFP Sub-Office staff Mr. Binod Dev Bhatta, FFE Baitadi staff Mr. Rishi Ram Bimali, World Education program officer Mr. Padam Singh Dhami and other DEO staff including school supervisor and resource person. Deputy Director from the Department of Education Mr. Dhan Bahadur Shrestha also traveled from Kathmandu to attend the program in Baitadi.

The primary objective of the program was to provide an overview of the project to district officials and discuss the selection process for the program. Mr. Tika Raj Karki from OLE Nepal presented the program details, including the goals, program components, school selection criteria, training and monitoring activities. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Shrestha from DoE also highlighted national ICT policy and the importance of integrating technology in education. A brief discussion was held regarding the school selection procedure.

One of the critical points discussed during the meeting was how we could ensure that all the eligible school receives the program information and school selection criteria. Deepa Thapa from OLE Nepal also gave a presentation on E-Paath activities. This demonstration gave a clear understanding of digital content to the district officials

It was agreed to ask all the eligible schools to submit applications for the program. For this, OLE Nepal with the help from DEO is currently inviting application from the schools. The application forms are now being distributed from DEO office. The schools can collect and apply before April 22 at DEO office. Once the applications are received, OLE Nepal and DEO office will select the possible potential schools before conducting an on-site survey of schools.

The meeting was concluded by the DEO officer promising of cooperating and assistance from the DEO office at the local level while implementing the program. Laptop integrated teaching program is being implemented in Doti, Dadeldhura, and Bajhang since 2012.
