“Keep working hard; one day your efforts will pay off.” This unwavering belief has guided Parbati Karki of Bangepipal, Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-6, Dhading, through years of hardship.
Parbati Karki Ncell Crorepati
On Friday, her perseverance was remarkably rewarded as she was declared the bumper prize winner of Ncell’s Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign. In a ceremony filled with overwhelming joy and disbelief at Ncell ICON, Lainchaur, Kathmandu, Karki received a life-changing cash prize of Rs. 1 Crore.
The Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign, which ran from June 15 to July 16 (Asar 1 to 32), offered customers who purchased services worth Rs. 99 or more a chance to win weekly cash prizes of Rs. 100,000, along with the grand bumper prize.
Karki, a loyal Ncell customer for eight years, became eligible after purchasing a ‘Basic Renewal’ pack worth Rs. 99 during the third week of the campaign. Her journey to this momentous win is a powerful testament to resilience.
From Tragedy to Triumph
Parbati Karki’s life took a devastating turn in 2015 when the massive earthquake struck Nepal. She lost her one-month-old son, and their newly built family home was reduced to rubble. “Everything we had built and dreamed of collapsed in a moment,” she recalled, recounting the profound sorrow.
With no other alternative, the family was forced to borrow money, and her husband sought foreign employment, currently working in Bahrain. Their only surviving son is studying in Grade 12 in Kathmandu. Despite her struggles, Karki dedicates herself to her community as a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV), providing vital health support and guidance to rural families.
The couple had previously attempted to run a small business in Kathmandu, but the venture resulted in heavy losses, compelling her husband to return abroad. “We are still repaying those debts, and my husband’s health is not good either,” she shared, highlighting the ongoing challenges they face.
A Miracle and a New Beginning
Karki’s journey from profound tragedy to this incredible triumph serves as a powerful reminder of hope. For her, this prize is more than just money—it is, in her own words, a miracle. “I have endured so many struggles in life, but never gave up and never stopped believing,” she expressed, visibly emotional. “This prize feels like a reward for all those years of hardship. I am deeply grateful to the Ncell family for recognizing my journey.”
With the prize money, Parbati Karki plans to settle their outstanding debts, bring her husband back home, and secure their son’s future. “No more foreign employment now. We want to start a business together, here in Nepal,” she declared with hopeful resolve, outlining a dream of a reunited family and a fresh start.
Ncell’s Commitment Fulfilled
The Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign, initially planned for 12 weeks, was discontinued by Ncell on July 17 in compliance with a directive from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). Alongside Karki, 50 other participants each received Rs. 100,000 as weekly cash prizes during the campaign.
“It brings us immense joy to fulfill our promise and award this life-changing bumper prize as part of the Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign,” stated Enamul Kabir, Chief Financial Officer of Ncell. “On behalf of the entire Ncell family, I warmly congratulate Parbati Karki. Her story is one of hope.
This also reflects our unwavering commitment to keeping our word. We are humbled to be a small part of her journey, and I sincerely hope she uses this reward to realize her dream of starting her own business. We look forward to visiting Dhading once her family is reunited.”
According to Ncell, the cash prizes have already been distributed to Parbati Karki and 35 other weekly winners, while the verification process for the remaining 15 recipients is currently ongoing.
