The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has published a statement on social media urging everyone to remain vigilant. The statement also addresses the recent character assassination activities that are spreading across social media.
According to the Police headquarters, some people have been found blackmailing and posting obscene photos and videos on social media. Moreover, these incidents involve such people quoting misleading details such as ‘This is Police calling from the Cybercrime…, calling from cybersecurity’.
The Cyber Bureau has also warned against sharing personal information through any means including phone and email. The statement requests the public to immediately inform the details to the Cyber Bureau or the nearest Police office.

The comments from the Facebook post thank the Bureau for issuing the statement and informing the public regarding such a threat. A comment mentions the inability of the government to prevent cybercrimes on its own. In fact, the person suggests the government and private cybersecurity researchers work together on this matter.
Meanwhile, another comment reflects upon the piling up of cyberbullying and hate speech case files. There are other complaints of no response from the social media page.

Official Statement:
