Priority is given to Nepali firms in cybersecurity audit, deadline extended for the participation of many

Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) has extended the time to participate in the roster that is being prepared for cybersecurity audit.

NTA has started conducting cybersecurity audits of telecommunication service providers this year. That is why NTA is preparing a roster of cybersecurity firms.

NTA issued a public notice for the first time on December 30. Requesting the companies and experts who meet the prescribed criteria and qualifications to participate in the roster.

Recently, for the second time, information has been issued and firms and experts who meet the specified criteria and qualifications have been requested to participate in the roster.

The NTA has said that the date for participating in the roster has been extended. Especially keeping in mind the Nepali cybersecurity firms and experts.

NTA Director Bijay Kumar Roy said that the deadline has extended to make Nepali cybersecurity firms more participants. He said that the telecommunication sector is a very important sector. And its cybersecurity audit will also increase the capacity of Nepali institutions.

“We have extended the deadline keeping in mind the Nepali firms. If Nepali firms can make to participate as much as possible. Their capacity will also increase,” said Director Roy.

According to him, due to the legal provision that all telecom and internet service providers licensed by the Telecommunication Authority have to conduct mandatory cybersecurity audits. Nepali cybersecurity firms will also gain experience from it.

NTA and other foreign cybersecurity firms have also participated in the application, which was demanded for the first time. Apart from Nepali, cybersecurity firms from India, UAE, and Malaysia have also come.

NTA currently operates more than 150 companies, including 6 telecom operators, 17 network service providers, and 127 internet service providers in 11 different categories. All of these companies will have to undergo a cybersecurity audit.

As per the extended deadline, the application has to submit to NTA by February 5.
