Gurung Urges Leadership and Management

During his visit to the regional and district offices of Telecom in Pokhara on Friday, Minister Gurung, who also serves as the government spokesperson, underscored the urgency of these reforms to transform telecom services.

Minister Gurung expressed concern over the substantial drop in Nepal Telecom’s earnings, which have plummeted from 60 billion to 30 billion in recent years. He warned that without significant improvements, the company could face a crisis shortly. “We need to address why there has been such a drastic decline and take corrective action,” he stated.

The Minister revealed plans for policy and managerial reforms within the Ministry, aimed at overhauling telecom and other related organizations over the next year. He highlighted that a roadmap for leadership and management improvements is already in place for the appointment of Nepal Telecom’s new Managing Director.

Additionally, Minister Gurung noted the decline in Nepal Telecom’s voice and data usage, attributing it to the rise of internet services. He urged the company to adapt by updating its technology and staffing. Furthermore, he called for the revision of outdated communication laws to better align with current needs.
