Gurung’s political journey began after he completed his B.A. from Amrit Science Campus in 2034. He then served as the headmaster of Budhodaya Mavi in Kholasonthar Rural Municipality 9, Geelong, for about seven years before resigning to enter politics. In 2043, he ran as a referendum candidate but was defeated. Despite this setback, Gurung continued his political activities and was elected as the Secretary of Swaviyu on behalf of Aneraswiyu in 2027.

Throughout his career, Gurung has held various significant roles. He was involved in the First Constituent Assembly as a member of the Government Form Determination Committee and the Natural Resources Committee in the Legislative Parliament. He also served as the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation during the post-peace legislature for approximately 18 months.

Gurung’s political influence extended to his role as the ideological leader in the movement to provide homes for the homeless in 2041, a cause for which he was jailed for over three months. His resilience and dedication to his political career were evident when he was arrested on June 7, 2042, and spent 11 months in prison under the Peace and Security Act.

As the first Chief Minister of Gandaki State Government, elected from Lamjung State (B) in the 2074 State Assembly Member Election, Gurung made significant contributions to the province. His recent victory over Dev Gurung allowed him to re-enter the House of Representatives and subsequently be appointed as the Minister of Communication and Information Technology.

Gurung, who is considered a political leader within his party, has always been a strong proponent of federalism. His political career, marked by various roles and contributions, continues to impact Nepal’s political landscape significantly.
