In a move to set the record straight and underscore their long-standing partnership, Proton Malaysia and its authorized Nepalese distributor, Jagdamba Motors, have released a joint official statement.
Proton Jagdamba Geely Nepal
The announcement comes amid market buzz and the recent launch of the Proton e.MAS 7, a vehicle based on the same platform as the Geely Galaxy E5.
The statement clearly outlines that the collaboration between the two companies remains exclusively focused on the Proton brand and that Geely has not appointed any official or authorized seller of Geely-branded vehicles in Nepal.
The joint clarification, spearheaded by Edmund Lim Meng Thong, CEO of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd, reaffirms their commitment to the Proton brand.
“Our focus in Nepal through this partnership remains exclusively on the Proton brand and the Proton e.MAS 7,” Lim stated. This is particularly relevant as other distributors, such as LRR Motors, have recently launched the Geely EX5 in Nepal, which is the same model as the Geely Galaxy E5.
The Proton-Jagdamba alliance, which began in 2018, has been pivotal in introducing Malaysian-made vehicles to the Nepalese market.
The launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 earlier this year, officiated by Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong, was a significant milestone. This vehicle is Malaysia’s first locally developed electric vehicle, built on the advanced Geely Galaxy E5 platform.
Its success in Malaysia is notable; as of July 2025, it has become the No.1 EV model, the top-selling EV SUV in the C-segment, and the best-selling EV overall in the Malaysian market.
This successful track record demonstrates the model’s strength and reliability as it expands into new international markets like Nepal.
Akhil Gupta, Executive Director of Jagdamba Motors, reinforced the sentiment, describing the partnership as a “shared vision to accelerate Nepal’s shift toward sustainable mobility.
” He added, “With the introduction of the Proton e.MAS 7 and our expanding service network, we are committed to making electric vehicles more accessible, reliable, and desirable for every Nepali customer.” This strategic collaboration is poised to shape the future of Nepal’s burgeoning EV ecosystem.
Beyond the clarification on distribution, the joint statement also detailed an ambitious roadmap for the future. By the end of 2025, Proton and Jagdamba Motors plan to operate a total of 12 showrooms and service centers across the country, with three already operational.
This expansion is designed to provide robust after-sales support, which is a crucial factor for building customer trust in the nascent EV market.
The after-sales ecosystem will include genuine Proton spare parts, certified technicians from both Proton and Geely, advanced diagnostic tools, and streamlined warranty and service support. This comprehensive plan highlights the long-term commitment of both companies to the Nepalese market.
By expanding their footprint and clarifying their brand focus, Proton and Jagdamba Motors are not just selling vehicles; they are actively working to strengthen Nepal’s electric mobility infrastructure and provide a high level of customer service.
This strategic move aims to solidify their position as leaders in Nepal’s green automotive revolution, ensuring that customers have a reliable and trustworthy partner for their EV journey.
