The collaboration, which began in November 2018, was celebrated with the historic launch of the Proton e.MAS 7, Malaysia’s first locally developed and best-selling electric vehicle. This landmark event, personally officiated by PROTON CEO Dr. Li Chunrong in Kathmandu, underscores a powerful, long-term commitment to Nepal’s green mobility future.
The Proton e.MAS 7, which has achieved record-breaking success in its home market, is now set to electrify the Nepalese market. The EV has quickly risen to become the number one EV model in Malaysia and the top-selling C-segment EV SUV. Its success is a testament to the cutting-edge technology and design that resulted from PROTON’s collaboration with the global automotive giant Geely.
This fusion of Malaysian engineering and Geely’s world-class EV technology has produced a vehicle tailored for regional markets, reflecting PROTON’s broader ambition to lead the electric vehicle transition in the ASEAN region and beyond.
During the launch ceremony, Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd, highlighted the synergy between the two companies. “Our partnership with Jagdamba Motors, our sole authorized distributor since November 2018, is a testament to the strong collaboration between PROTON and Geely.
We are confident that our combined expertise and commitment will provide customers with comprehensive sales and after-sales support,” he said. He further clarified that their focus in Nepal remains exclusively on the PROTON brand and the Proton e.MAS 7, noting that Geely has not appointed any official or authorized seller of Geely-branded vehicles in the country.
This clarification is particularly relevant given the recent independent entry of Geely’s brand and models like the EX5 into the Nepalese market through other distributors.
With over 14 years of automotive experience, Jagdamba Motors has been a pivotal force in establishing PROTON’s presence in Nepal. The company has laid out a robust roadmap to support the new EV and its customers, ensuring long-term value and reliability. This includes a massive expansion of its network, with plans for 12 operational showrooms and service centers across the country by the end of 2025, with three already up and running.
This ambitious expansion is backed by a commitment to building a world-class aftersales ecosystem. The plan includes providing genuine PROTON spare parts, advanced diagnostic tools, and employing PROTON & Geely-certified technicians.
This will ensure that customers receive top-tier service and support, a crucial factor in building consumer confidence in the burgeoning EV market. Mr. Akhil Gupta, Executive Director of Jagdamba Motors, expressed the company’s shared vision. “Our alliance with PROTON is more than just a distribution partnership—it is a shared vision to drive Nepal into the future of sustainable mobility.
With the introduction of the Proton e.MAS 7 and our expanding service network, we are committed to making electric vehicles more accessible, reliable, and desirable for every Nepali customer,” he stated. The introduction of the Proton e.MAS 7 is well-timed with Nepal’s accelerating transition to green mobility. The nation has seen a rapid increase in EV adoption, and the arrival of a highly successful, feature-rich model like the e.MAS 7 is expected to further fuel this momentum.
By expanding the EV ecosystem and reinforcing the brand’s reputation for innovation and excellence, PROTON and Jagdamba Motors are not just selling a car; they are contributing to a more sustainable and technologically advanced future for Nepal. The strengthened partnership is poised to set a new benchmark for customer service and brand loyalty in the Nepalese automotive industry.
