Research on Online Grooming in Nepal: ChildSafeNet, Kathmandu University & Partners

In a significant step toward safeguarding children in the digital age, ChildSafeNet has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kathmandu University, ChildFund Japan, and Otemon Gakuin University (Japan) to conduct an in-depth research study on online grooming of children in Nepal.

Research on Online Grooming Nepal

The MoU was formally signed by representatives of the collaborating institutions, including Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel (he/him) from Kathmandu University School of Education. This partnership aims to explore the risks, patterns, and vulnerabilities associated with online grooming while evaluating existing support systems and response mechanisms to protect children online.

Key Objectives of the Research

The study, led by ChildSafeNet, will focus on:

Understanding Online Grooming: Identifying the methods and tactics used by perpetrators to groom children online.

Assessing Vulnerabilities: Analyzing the socio-cultural and technological factors that make children susceptible to online grooming.

Evaluating Support Systems: Reviewing the effectiveness of current policies, interventions, and awareness initiatives in Nepal.

Generating Insights: Providing evidence-based recommendations to strengthen child protection mechanisms and create a safer online environment.

A Collaborative Effort for Child Safety

This research marks a milestone in cross-border collaboration, bringing together expertise from Nepal and Japan to address a critical issue affecting children globally. The findings will contribute to the development of stronger policies, targeted interventions, and awareness campaigns to combat online grooming and protect children in Nepal.
