Routing Security Workshop Nepal is going to be organized by npCert (Information Security Response Team Nepal) and Internet Society Global (MANRS, Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security) from 29th November to 30th November.

Introduction

The MANRS pilot online course is targeted at engineers currently working at ISPs, IXPs, REN, Enterprise network,s and any network operator with BGP peering networks.

The training objectives are to:

• Build knowledge on how to collaboratively secure the global routing table using the four MANRS actions.

• To build practical skill on MANRS principles
• Increase the adoption/usage of RPKI for routing security

The preferred audience for the course is engineers currently managing live routers at ISPs/IXPs/REN/large networks/ Enterprise and managing BGP peers.
The training will consist of theory content and a hands-on lab to allow participants to try out filtering principles in a simulated hands-on environment.
The course will be entirely online and the theory content will consist of modules available on Moodle plus online calls.

Trainee Qualifications:

The desired MANRS trainee has the following background:
• Currently managing a network with live routers
• Comfortable with BGP configuration and filtering
• Comfortable with Cisco syntax
What you need to complete the training
• A laptop/PC with a modern browser
• An Internet connection

How long is the course?

• The course is a plan for 2 days
• The course is structured as follows:
• Day 1: Theory content via online Zoom calls and reading material
• Day 2: Hands-on exercises where trainees will each have access to one router in a topology of 5 routers

Course structure

Day 1:

• Module 1 – Introduction to MANRS
• Module 2 – IRR, RPKI and Peering DB
• Module 3 – Global Validation
• Module 4 – Anti Spoofing
• Module 5 – Filtering
• Module 6 – Coordination

Day 2:

• Hands-on lab (trainees are challenged to install MANRS actions in on online lab)
• Course Wrap up
