Dr. Tosima Karki, a prominent leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is calling for the party to launch an immediate RSP reform process.

Speaking at a Constitution Day event, she emphasized the need for her party to restructure itself to align with public expectations and democratic principles.

Her statement comes in the wake of the recent Gen-Z movement, which she believes highlighted the urgent need for political change and an end to systemic political instability. Dr. Karki’s call is a direct response to the massive protests that have rocked the country, causing significant loss and damage.

Dr. Karki’s appeal was a part of her response to proposals from founding chairman Rabi Lamichhane and acting chair DP Aryal. She argued that while the RSP was formed to protect democracy and promote good governance, it cannot ignore the recent public concerns and events.

The Gen-Z protests, she said, demonstrate that Nepal’s political landscape must not remain stagnant. Political parties must break away from traditional structures and pursue comprehensive reforms.

Responding to the Gen-Z Movement

Dr. Karki highlighted the tragic outcome of the recent protests, noting that the brutal suppression under the previous government led to the deaths of at least 72 people.

She believes that the aspirations of Gen-Z, Gen-Alpha, and all other age groups must be included in shaping Nepal’s future. The country cannot simply return to its previous state.

Political parties must embrace the positive changes demanded by these movements. They need to reform traditional systems and listen to the people.

According to Dr. Karki, this is a crucial time for the RSP to review its leadership, principles, and policies. She believes that by doing so, the party can build a moderate and effective political force.

This force, she said, would be capable of guiding the nation toward a stable and prosperous future. She urged the party to engage in dialogue with other political parties, intellectual groups, and independent actors. This dialogue is necessary to institutionalize the changes demanded by the Gen-Z movement.

The Path to a Sustainable Political Future

Dr. Karki stressed that the party must immediately address the grievances of all segments of society. This includes young people, minority communities, and citizens from all regions.

The unprecedented losses and damage from the recent protests have made this action more urgent than ever. She is pushing for a political force that can effectively lead Nepal. She wants to see a reassessment and restructuring of the party’s entire framework.

Her call for a reform process is a significant moment for the RSP. It shows a recognition of the profound changes happening in Nepali society.

Dr. Karki believes that the only way forward is to work with other political actors, think tanks, and independent individuals. This collaboration is key to establishing a sustainable and moderate political path for the nation.
