Sarika Ghimire’s Dashain Story: Childhood, Responsibilities, and Songs

1st October 2025, Kathmandu

Popular Nepali singer, songwriter, composer, and actress Sarika Ghimire has made a unique place in the music industry. Known for her viral hit “Gun Bhulyau, Pittalko Sun Payau Hola,” she has captured the hearts of audiences across Nepal.

Sarika Ghimire’s Dashain Story

Millions of views on YouTube, thousands of TikTok and Instagram reels, and recognition from children to the elderly have made her one of the most talked-about artists today.

Amidst her busy music schedule, Sarika shared her memories of Dashain and reflections on celebrating the festival as an adult in an interview with Nepal News Bank.

Childhood Dashain – Joy of New Clothes and Swings

“Dashain always reminds me of my childhood days,” Sarika recalled fondly.

As a child, she eagerly awaited new clothes purchased weeks in advance by her family. Wearing these clothes and showing them off around the village brought immense happiness. “Even today, I don’t think my current success compares to the excitement of receiving new clothes during Dashain,” she said.

Playing on swings (ping), receiving tika, and collecting dakshina were all part of the joyful festival experience. Sarika explained that those memories still feel fresh, as if they happened yesterday.

Growing Up – Dashain Feels Different Now

With age and increased responsibilities, Sarika admitted that Dashain no longer brings the same childlike excitement.

“Now it feels a little normal. The rush, preparation, and youthful enthusiasm aren’t the same anymore,” she said. “Responsibilities increase with age, but Dashain remains Nepal’s biggest festival. It should always be celebrated respectfully and happily.”

She emphasized that even as adults, Nepalis should preserve the joy, peace, and traditions of Dashain.

Festivals and Music – An Unbreakable Bond

For Sarika, music and festivals are inseparable.

“The moment Dashain arrives, songs start playing everywhere,” she said. “Without music, the festival feels incomplete.”

She expressed mild regret about not having recorded a Dashain-special song this year. “I had planned to record one, but time didn’t permit. Hopefully, next year I will produce a festival song,” she added.

Staying in Nepal During Dashain

Unlike many artists who travel abroad during Dashain and Tihar for programs, Sarika has stayed in Nepal throughout her career.

“So far, I have never traveled abroad during these festivals. There are a few programs in Nepal, but due to the country’s overall situation, things are not regular,” she explained.

Despite this, she enjoys connecting with audiences across the country during Dashain and Tihar through her performances and social media presence.

A Message to All Nepalis

Sarika extended her warm wishes to everyone celebrating Dashain:
“Happy Dashain! Celebrate wherever you are, safely, peacefully, and joyfully.”

She emphasized the importance of celebrating the festival responsibly while preserving tradition. As an artist, Sarika hopes to continue producing songs that spread awareness, joy, and cultural pride.

She also hinted at future projects: “Maybe next year, during Dashain, people will hear a new festive song in my voice,” she said, promising a musical treat for festival-goers.

Conclusion

Sarika Ghimire’s reflections show how Dashain is both a time for nostalgia and celebration. From the joy of childhood memories to the responsibilities of adulthood, the festival continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Nepalis.

Through her music and public presence, Sarika not only entertains but also inspires her audience to celebrate festivals with respect, happiness, and unity. Her plans for future Dashain songs highlight the ongoing connection between culture, music, and tradition in Nepal.
