Tourist arrivals are steadily increasing at resorts and lodges following the quiet period after Dashain.

This positive trend gives a much-needed boost to the local economy. The recent improvement follows disruptions caused by the Gen-Z movement and the subsequent festive slowdown.

Hotels are now welcoming a growing number of guests. Occupancy rates have surged to about 30% of normal levels.

This marks a significant jump from the mere 5% recorded during the Dashain festival. These figures show a tangible return of visitors to the Chitwan area.

Foreign Visitors Drive Initial Surge

International visitors are leading this initial recovery. For instance, Unique Wild Resort is set to welcome a large group of 30 foreign guests today.

This represents the biggest single arrival since the holiday period began. Resort owner Gunaraj Thapaliya noted this promising uptick.

He also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Regional Hotel Association. The arrival of international tourists is critical for the sector’s financial stability.

The foreign visitor increase is crucial. Nepal’s tourism industry experienced an estimated loss of over Rs 25 billion due to the Gen-Z protests in September 2025.

Events like those underscore the reliance on stable operations for the peak tourist season. The return of international travellers, though cautious, helps restore confidence in the region’s safety.

Accessibility and Attractions Reopen

Improved infrastructure is driving much of the renewed interest. Road conditions have significantly improved following earlier disruptions linked to the Gen-Z movement.

Better road access makes travel to Chitwan National Park easier and safer for tourists. The government and local bodies have worked actively to restore normal operations and transport links across Nepal.

Chitwan National Park activities are also fully operational again. Jungle safaris, a primary draw for the region, are reopened.

These wildlife attractions are an immense draw. Attractions include jeep safaris, elephant safaris (in community forests), and canoeing on the Rapti river.

The park’s famous wildlife, including the one-horned rhino and Royal Bengal Tiger, continue to attract enthusiasts.

Local Businesses Report Growth

Local businesses have begun feeling the positive effects of the recovery. Hotels like Hotel Landmark are reporting more walk-ins.

The improved foreign tourist arrival rate is a welcome sign, although domestic visitor numbers remain low. Om Pandey, the Hotel Landmark operator and Association Chair, confirmed this trend.

Restaurants in Sauraha are also seeing increased patronage. Restaurant operators confirm that activities like elephant safaris are regaining traction.

Suman Ghimire of Jungle Safari Lodge anticipates further growth. The full reopening of park safaris and the approaching Tihar festival fuel this optimism.

Optimism for Tihar and Future Growth

Tourism entrepreneurs remain cautiously optimistic about the future. They especially look toward the upcoming Tihar festival.

They expect a further rise in domestic tourist numbers during this key holiday period. Tihar traditionally sees an influx of local travelers. This domestic movement will supplement the foreign arrivals currently boosting the economy.

Industry stakeholders are working hard. They aim to send a positive and unified message that Nepal is a safe destination.

Efforts are focused on ensuring a tourism-friendly environment. They want to prevent negative perceptions from forming among potential travelers.

The resilience of the Nepalese tourism sector, demonstrated after past disasters, gives experts confidence in a quick and full revival.

Sauraha is once again ready to welcome guests with its renowned hospitality and unforgettable wildlife experiences.
