Social Media is the way of life for most of the younger generation. And whether it is for better or for worse ‘Selfies’ have become an indispensable part of this modern/digital culture.

The proof: A study conducted in 2015 found that an average woman spends about 5 hrs every week to take selfies. According to the survey conducted by Newbie, girls aged from 16 to 25 years-old spend about 45 min per day to take the selfie.

Now, this 45 mins time include the time taken for the makeup they do before taking the picture, changing the lighting effect and angle of the selfie. According to the news published on mi mar online, this counts to girls spending 5 hours and 36 mins per week.

Mostly they take three selfies giving each selfie 16 minutes. The study done among 2000 girls shows that the culture of the selfie has been increasing and also been considered as a source to portray any message.

This rage for selfies is also a result of celebrity influences. Every day there are multiple celebrities posting multiples selfies all over social media.

The study also has brought another essential conclusion, i.e., the culture of taking selfie has increased self-esteem in people.

The study also tells that, today’s generation has been dependent for their self-esteem on the number of likes they get in the pictures they upload on social media accounts like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.

However, the study also dives on the darker side of selfies, where selfies have been equalized to self-worth. This results in girls facing immense about of pressure by them comparing themselves with the people they see on social media.
