Dashain, Nepal’s biggest festival, is here once again, bringing excitement across the country. From shopping and preparing for travel to booking tickets home, Nepalis are gearing up to celebrate with family and loved ones.
Singer Benisha Paudel Shares Childhood Memories
For singer Benisha Paudel, Dashain holds a special meaning. In an interview with Nepal News Bank, she revealed that she plans to visit her hometown and simply celebrate with her family.
“Dashain is about spending time with family. I plan to go to the village, sit together with my loved ones, sing songs, and enjoy in a simple manner. Festivals feel livelier in the village,” she shared.
Childhood Dashain vs. Today
Reflecting on her childhood, Paudel recalled how Dashain used to mean new clothes, delicious food, and Dakshina.
“Back then, Dashain was all about how much Dakshina we would receive and the excitement of wearing new clothes. But as I grew older, that feeling changed. Now, Dashain is more about togetherness with family,” she explained.
Her Musical Journey
Benisha Paudel began her musical career in 2018 with the debut song “Aankhaima Laune Gajal Sakiyo.” Passionate about music from an early age, she joined music classes during her school years with her family’s support. After the success of her first song, she recorded more hits and even appeared on Nepal Idol.
Some of her popular songs include:
Yasto Maya
Aankhaima
Pardaina Pardaina Malai Phakaauna
Murali Tiriri
Sambandha
Bas Parkhera
Striving for Versatility in Music
Paudel believes that a true singer must be versatile.
“As a singer, you shouldn’t stick to one genre. You have to step out of your comfort zone and try all kinds of songs. I enjoy listening to different types of music, and I want to sing them all,” she said.
Music as a Career
The singer acknowledged that living solely off singing may be difficult, but there are many opportunities in the music industry.
“You can teach music, learn guitar, teach others, or even work as a music arranger. With dedication and effort, there are many ways to sustain yourself through music,” she added.
