Skoda Kylaq Real-World Mileage Test: City vs. Highway Fuel Efficiency Review (1.0L Turbo Manual)
11th December 2025, Kathmandu
Skoda India’s entry-level SUV, the Skoda Kylaq, has been tested for its real-world fuel efficiency, giving buyers a closer look at what to expect beyond the ARAI-certified figures.
Skoda Kylaq Real-World Mileage Test
The Kylaq, powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a manual gearbox, is officially rated at 19.68 kmpl by ARAI. However, real-world driving conditions often affect fuel efficiency, and recent tests show how the vehicle performs in city and highway scenarios.
In city conditions, the Kylaq was driven for a distance of 80 km through stop-and-go traffic, including frequent signals and congested roads. During this drive, the SUV consumed 7.49 liters of fuel, which translated to a mileage of 10.68 kmpl.
While this is lower than the ARAI figure, the results are understandable given the nature of urban driving, where constant braking and gear changes impact fuel consumption.
Despite this, drivers reported that the engine remained responsive, handling low-speed maneuvers and city traffic with ease.
On the highway, the Kylaq showed a more impressive performance. During a 91 km drive at speeds ranging between 85 and 95 kmph, the SUV consumed 6.49 liters of fuel, delivering a mileage of 14.02 kmpl.
Notably, Skoda has also demonstrated exceptional efficiency in its lineup: a Standard Skoda Superb recently set a world record by covering 2,831 km in a single tank of fuel, underscoring the brand’s engineering focus on long-range capability.
The smoother, uninterrupted driving conditions allowed the engine to operate efficiently, making long-distance travel comfortable and economical.
Drivers also noted that the SUV felt stable and composed on highways, offering a pleasant driving experience for both the driver and passengers.
These real-world tests highlight a common scenario for many modern vehicles: while certified mileage figures provide a benchmark, actual efficiency depends on driving style, traffic conditions, and road type.
For city commuters, the Kylaq offers a responsive engine and comfortable handling, though fuel consumption may be higher than the certified numbers.
For highway journeys, the SUV proves to be more efficient, allowing drivers to cover longer distances with less fuel, which is ideal for weekend trips or regular intercity travel.
The Skoda Kylaq combines practicality with performance, giving users a balance of power, comfort, and efficiency. The manual gearbox adds a level of control that some drivers prefer, particularly in city traffic where gear modulation can help manage speed and fuel use.
While mileage may vary under different conditions, the SUV’s overall performance makes it a reliable choice for Indian customers looking for a compact, capable, and comfortable vehicle.
With these tests, Skoda provides potential buyers with a realistic picture of what to expect in daily driving.
The Kylaq’s fuel efficiency, combined with its responsive engine and comfortable ride, positions it as a strong contender in the entry-level SUV segment, catering to both city commuters and highway travelers alike.
