In the ever-evolving landscape of communication, Sparrow SMS New Chapter has been a reliable and dedicated presence, guiding the way for over 13 years.

When Sparrow SMS was started in 2010, Nepal was going through 14-18 hours of power cuts and there were regular Nepal Bandh Strikes too. Access to Information was a challenge given the topography of Nepal, Negligible Smartphone Penetration, and Limited / Expensive Internet access.

Sparrow SMS worked hard for simple yet powerful tools for bringing Access to Information to Mass. Small use cases like Checking Labor Permit Status before going abroad have saved a lot of migrant workers from being cheated. Initially, when the service was launched by the Department of Foreign Employment, we received more than a million SMS.

It was a revolution for Safe Migration and this Project also received the Mbillionth South Asia Award.

Small services like a farmer from a remote area checking the Kalimati Daily Vegetable Price via Sparrow SMS could help the farmer bargain better from the wholesale buyers in their district.

Some other notable projects launched by Sparrow SMS include Load Shedding Schedule in SMS, SLC/SEE result checking, Human Trafficking Vulnerability SMS reporting, SMS-Based Livestock Management and Reporting System, and the Mid Day Meal Monitoring Platform, etc.

Sparrow SMS serves over 150 million SMS per year in Nepal. We also integrated with Google Person Finder service during the Earthquake in Nepal. We integrated with the open-source Usahidhi platform demand /supply Data Visualization during the Earthquake in Nepal.

Times have changed now. Earlier Many Government as well as Private organizations didn’t even have a website and no one used OTP services to verify their customer base. However, now Nepal has 100% mobile penetration, and 70% SmartPhone Penetration and the Internet has reached almost all corners of Nepal.

In addition to its SMS services, Sparrow SMS has successfully ventured into Voice and Viber Business messaging services. Acknowledging the surging demand for these services, Sparrow SMS is gearing up to launch SMS and Enterprise Messaging platforms on a global scale. This expansion aims to deliver the efficiency, speed, and reliability of the Sparrow Platform to a global audience.
