Standard Chartered Bank Nepal has appointed Gorakh Shumsher Rana as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will officially take charge in January 2025. This decision marks the first time the bank has selected a Nepali leader for the top position.

Since its establishment in 1987, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal has always appointed foreign nationals as its CEOs. Rana’s appointment breaks this tradition and sets a new benchmark in Nepal’s banking history.

Transition After Current CEO’s Tenure

Rana will replace Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, whose term ends in December 2024. The bank’s Board of Directors finalized the decision during a recent meeting.

Rana’s Career in Standard Chartered

Rana has been with Standard Chartered Bank for nearly three decades. He started his journey in 1994 in the Retail and Private Banking department.

1994: Joined the bank in Retail and Private Banking.

1996: Transitioned to Corporate and Institutional Banking.

Career Roles: Served as Relationship Manager, Senior Credit Manager, Head of Client Coverage, and later as Head of Global and Commercial Banking.

January 2022: Promoted to Deputy CEO.

Over the years, Rana has proven his expertise in client relations, credit management, and strategic leadership.
