The downpour has dramatically increased the risk of catastrophic floods, landslides, and widespread inundation, with the situation predicted to worsen significantly over the next two days.
Rivers at High Alert: A Call for Caution
PM Karki specifically warned that numerous major rivers and streams are currently at high alert levels. Citizens in at-risk areas are strongly advised to take immediate precautions and to strictly follow all official warnings issued by the Nepal Police and disaster management authorities.
“This is a challenging time, but I want to assure all citizens that government agencies are fully prepared for rescue and relief operations, even under adverse conditions,” PM Karki stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to public safety.
Government Preparedness and Public Holidays
In a decisive move to minimize risk and allow residents to prioritize safety, the government has officially declared public holidays on 19th and 20th Ashoj (Sunday and Monday).
The Prime Minister confirmed that all state resources are available to support the public. The Nepal Police, Armed Police, Nepal Army, local administration, health workers, and other emergency service providers are on 24/7 standby for immediate deployment.
Infrastructure Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of major highways and essential infrastructure is underway. Roads will be reopened only as soon as conditions are deemed safe.
Safety First: PM Karki’s message was clear: “Stay safe, encourage others to do the same, and avoid moving through floodwaters or landslide-prone areas. Prioritize life and property.”
