The floods, which occurred on July 31st due to the bursting of a snow lake, severely damaged the infrastructure, including the headworks of the Khumbu Electricity Company, leading to power and communication outages across the area.

The natural disaster impacted personal and public properties and caused a complete halt in electricity and communication services in Wards No. 3, 4, and 5 of the rural municipality. The situation in Thame, a popular tourist village, became dire as residents and visitors were left without communication services.

Upon learning of the situation from local representatives, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, took immediate action. He directed the concerned authorities, including Nepal Telecom and Ncell, to restore communication services using alternative energy sources. Minister Gurung’s intervention aimed to swiftly reconnect Thame to the communication grid, addressing the needs of both the local population and tourists.

As of now, BTS towers in Namche, Khumjung, Pani Tanki, Photse, and other areas have been restored, bringing mobile services back online. The swift response highlights the importance of communication infrastructure in remote areas, especially during emergencies.

The restoration of these services not only reconnects Thame with the rest of the world but also ensures that the local community and visitors can access vital information and stay in touch with their loved ones. This prompt action by the authorities has been crucial in mitigating the impact of the natural disaster on the region’s communication network.
