Notice Regarding Temporary Disruption of Banking Services Due to CBS Upgrade
22nd December 2025, Kathmandu
Everest Bank Limited one of the leading commercial banks in Nepal has officially released a notice regarding an upcoming temporary disruption of its banking services. This disruption is a result of a critical upgrade to its Core Banking System known as CBS Finacle.
Temporary Disruption of Services
As a bank that has consistently prioritized technological advancement and customer security this upgrade is a necessary step to enhance the digital experience for its millions of users. However the transition requires a scheduled downtime that will span from Poush 10 to Poush 12 2082. During this period several essential services including mobile banking online banking and branch operations will be affected across the nation.
Understanding the Core Banking System Upgrade
The Core Banking System or CBS is the heart of any modern financial institution. It is the centralized system that supports the most common transactions of a bank such as making and servicing loans opening new accounts and processing cash deposits and withdrawals. Everest Bank uses Finacle which is a world class core banking solution developed by Infosys. Upgrading to a newer version of Finacle allows the bank to offer faster transaction speeds improved security features and a more intuitive user interface for digital products.
By performing this upgrade Everest Bank aims to reduce system latency and introduce new features that align with the digital banking trends of 2025. While the temporary unavailability of services might cause short term inconvenience the long term benefits include a more robust and scalable platform that can handle the growing volume of digital transactions in Nepal.
Schedule of Banking Service Disruption in Poush 2082
The upgrade process is strategically scheduled across three days to minimize impact on regular business hours where possible. However because the upgrade involves deep system migrations the disruption is unavoidable.
Poush 10 2082 Wednesday Public Holiday
On the first day of the upgrade which happens to be a public holiday for Christmas both online banking and mobile banking services will be completely unavailable. Since many customers rely on these apps for quick transfers and utility payments during holidays the bank has advised everyone to complete their urgent transactions at least a day in advance. All related services that rely on the bank mobile and web platforms will remain offline for the entire day.
Poush 11 2082 Thursday
The disruption continues into the second day with online banking and mobile banking platforms remaining unavailable. This is a working day for the general economy so businesses that use the Everest Bank web portal for corporate payments or salary processing should take note. The bank has emphasized that the downtime is required to ensure data integrity and a smooth transition of the database to the upgraded Finacle environment.
Poush 12 2082 Friday
The final day of the scheduled upgrade will see the most extensive disruption. On Friday Poush 12 all banking services at branches and counters across Nepal will remain unavailable. This includes major hubs like the Birgunj and Nepalgunj branches as well as specialized counters like ICD and ICP banking services. Furthermore critical interbank clearing and settlement services will be offline. This includes the Nepal Clearing House Limited or NCHL systems Electronic Cheque Clearing or ECC the Nepal Bharat Revenue service and Real Time Gross Settlement or RTGS. If you are expecting a large transfer or need to clear a cheque on this day you will need to reschedule for the following week.
Impact on Cards and Electronic Alerts
In addition to the specific schedule mentioned above Everest Bank has noted that ATM and card services may be partially or completely unavailable throughout the upgrade window from Poush 10 to Poush 12. This means that withdrawing cash from an Everest Bank ATM or using your Everest Bank debit card at a point of sale terminal might not work as expected. Similarly the SME email alert services which notify business owners of transactions will also be suspended during this time.
How Customers Should Prepare for the Banking Blackout
To avoid any financial distress during these three days customers are encouraged to follow a few simple steps. First withdraw a sufficient amount of cash before Poush 10 to cover your daily expenses and any holiday activities. Second ensure that all your utility bill payments such as electricity water and internet are paid before the disruption begins. For business owners it is advisable to settle vendor payments and employee salaries before Thursday to maintain smooth operations.
Everest Bank has expressed its sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by this necessary technical work. The bank customer care team and the head office in Lazimpat Kathmandu remain committed to assisting customers with any queries before the upgrade window begins. Once the upgrade to the new Finacle system is complete normal banking services will resume with enhanced performance and security.
Conclusion and Future Outlook
The move by Everest Bank Limited to upgrade its CBS in 2082 is a clear sign of its commitment to the future of banking in Nepal. As digital payments become the norm having a state of the art backend is no longer a luxury but a necessity for competitive commercial banks. This upgrade will likely pave the way for more integrated features in the EBL mobile app and a smoother experience for corporate clients. The bank appreciates the patience and cooperation of its valued customers during this transition period.
