Tiktok is planning to rapidly expand e-commerce in the United States.
The Financial Times reports, citing people who are familiar with the matter, that social media plans to introduce new features this year.
One of these features is a tool that allows the most common users of TikTok to share product links and automatically receive commissions after-sales.
TikTok is also carrying out ‘live-streamed’ shopping, a cell phone version of the June TV commercial channels, where users can purchase products with a few taps. According to the article, the company is also trying to highlight its catalogs.
Tiktok seems to be quitting the desktop experience and going straight to e-commerce, said Jack Smith, Mind share’s innovative technology officer who is part of the WPP. “TikTok is a great place for live stream e-commerce,” Smith said.
According to the Financial Times, this plan will increase competition between TikTok and Facebook Inc. for e-commerce spending.
