This distinguished group received honors for their commitment under the Nepal Eye Program. The recognition highlights the dedication of the personnel who deliver crucial eye care, often leveraging modern ICT infrastructure to reach remote communities.
In a special ceremony, Dr. Sanduk Ruit, Chairman of TIO, presented the doctors and employees with appreciation letters and tokens of honor.
The success of the Nepal Eye Program relies on a dedicated team, from clinical specialists to administrative and technical staff, all working to eliminate preventable blindness.
Excellence in Clinical and Management Roles
The honored staff represent the multi-faceted nature of modern healthcare delivery.
Several senior ophthalmologists received recognition, including Dr. Namrata Gupta, Dr. Vivek Bista, Dr. Bandana Khanal, Dr. Chandrakala Gurung, and Dr. Meena Dhamala. Their clinical expertise remains the bedrock of TIO’s quality service.
Significantly, the awards also celebrated professionals from non-clinical departments.
Senior Human Resources Officer Tara Kumari Lama, Senior Finance Officer Pramod Kumar Shrestha, and Public Relations Assistant Dinesh Prasad Pokhrel were among those honored.
Recognizing these management roles affirms that administrative efficiency is equally vital to ensuring smooth operations of a large-scale health program.
Effective management and financial oversight, often supported by integrated digital systems, maintain the sustainability and reach of TIO’s initiatives.
Technical and Outreach Personnel Critical to Success
The institute also celebrated technical and outreach personnel who form the direct link between TIO and the community.
Ophthalmic Officers Shraddha Maharjan and Rama Mahat were honored, alongside Marketing Officer Deepika Upreti, who works to raise awareness.
Senior Ophthalmic Assistant Bidhan Tamrakar, ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) Renuka Kumari Chaudhary and Swosti Khatiwada, and CMA (Community Medicine Auxiliary) Indra Laxmi Shrestha were recognized for their frontline medical contributions.
Furthermore, production technician Rajan Bhujel, Store Assistant Sudarshan Prasad Neupane, Eye Bank Counselor Sundar Mahat, and Medical Lab Technician Padam Bahadur Hamal were also awarded.
These roles underscore TIO’s integrated approach, covering everything from logistics and supplies to specialized services like the Eye Bank, all of which benefit from digitized record-keeping and inventory management.
Telemedicine and ICT: Bridging the Distance
The immense reach of TIO’s eye care services across Nepal, which include community eye centers and high-volume surgical outreach clinics, is made possible through the smart application of ICT. In a country with challenging geography, Telemedicine has become an indispensable tool.
TIO uses digital platforms to connect local medical staff in remote centers with specialist doctors at the main hospital in Kathmandu.
This allows for real-time virtual consultations, where staff can transmit high-resolution ocular images captured using smartphone-based devices.
This digital link ensures accurate diagnosis and timely treatment recommendations, effectively eliminating geographical barriers to expert care. Telemedicine thus transforms a patient’s journey, often preventing unnecessary travel for initial diagnoses.
Leadership Commits to Future Digital Integration
The ceremony saw the presence of key leadership, including Chief Executive Officer Pitambar Adhikari, Chief Finance Officer Ramchandra Khanal, and Human Resources Manager Mukesh Singh.
Their presence emphasized the institutional commitment to not only recognizing past performance but also investing in the human resources necessary for future expansion.
The recognition of the diverse staff roles implicitly highlights the need for continuous training in digital literacy and new Telemedicine technologies.
As TIO continues to expand its eye care network, utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) and digital communication platforms will only become more essential.
This use of ICT ensures the Institute maintains its reputation for providing world-class, affordable, and accessible Eye Care to hundreds of thousands of Nepalis, standing as a powerful model for global health delivery.
