30th August 2025, Kathmandu
The Indian electric vehicle market is heating up, and TVS Motor Company is riding the wave with the launch of its latest innovation, the TVS Orbiter.
TVS Orbiter electric scooter
Positioned as a family-friendly urban commuter, the Orbiter is set to make a significant impact by combining practicality, a generous range, and smart technology at an attractive price point of Rs 99,900 (ex-showroom).
This new electric scooter is a strategic addition to TVS’s growing EV portfolio, which already includes the popular iQube. However, the Orbiter stands out with a focus on affordability and a feature set that directly addresses the needs of everyday riders. It’s a clear signal from TVS that they are committed to accelerating the adoption of electric mobility across India.
Range and Performance Designed for the City
At the heart of the TVS Orbiter is a 3.1 kWh battery, which delivers an impressive IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range of 158 km on a single charge.
This range is a game-changer, as it significantly reduces range anxiety, a major concern for potential EV buyers. Whether you’re commuting to work, running errands, or taking a weekend trip, the Orbiter’s range ensures you can do so without constantly worrying about your next charge.
The scooter comes with two distinct riding modes:
- Eco Mode: Optimizes battery usage for maximum range.
- City Mode: Provides a balance of performance and efficiency for a smoother, more responsive ride in urban traffic.
Beyond its range, the Orbiter boasts a set of mechanical and design features aimed at enhancing comfort and stability. The 14-inch front wheel, a segment-first, provides superior stability and handling, particularly on uneven roads.
This, combined with an upright handlebar and a long, flat 845 mm seat, creates a comfortable riding posture for both the rider and a pillion. The scooter’s 112 kg kerb weight makes it easy to maneuver, even in congested urban environments.
Smart Technology and Convenience Features
The Orbiter isn’t just a scooter; it’s a connected mobility solution. It’s loaded with smart features that elevate the riding experience to a whole new level.
The scooter’s colored LCD instrument cluster connects to a smartphone app, providing a wealth of information and functionality. Riders can access:
- Turn-by-turn navigation
- Geo-fencing and time-fencing for added security and parental control
- Crash/fall alerts
- Anti-theft notifications and live tracking
- OTA (Over-the-Air) software updates to keep the scooter’s firmware current
In addition to connectivity, TVS has equipped the Orbiter with several segment-first convenience features. Cruise control allows for a more relaxed ride on open roads, while hill hold assist prevents the scooter from rolling backward on inclines.
Regenerative braking helps to recover energy while decelerating, extending the overall range. The scooter also offers a massive 34-litre boot space, large enough to hold two helmets, a feature that is a huge plus for daily commuters.
Safety hasn’t been overlooked, with the inclusion of LED lighting for better visibility and emergency notifications. The robust 169 mm ground clearance ensures the scooter can handle India’s diverse road conditions with ease.
The combination of features positions the TVS Orbiter as a strong competitor in the electric scooter segment, going up against rivals like the Ather Rizta and Ola S1 X.
By offering a blend of practical range, modern technology, and user-centric design, the TVS Orbiter is poised to make electric scooters a more compelling choice for a wider audience in India.
