Umakanta Sharma New President of Nepal Heavy Equipment Entrepreneurs’ Federation

The Nepal Heavy Equipment Entrepreneurs’ Federation held its sixth General Assembly and third Convention in Kathmandu on Thursday. During the event, Umakanta Sharma was elected as the new president.

His election was a result of a unanimous decision by the members of the Federation. The convention also led to the selection of the new executive committee.
New Leadership in the Federation
Alongside Sharma, Suresh Khatri was elected as the Senior Vice President. Basanta Prasad Bhusal became the First Vice President, while Sunil Thapa was appointed as the Second Vice President. Jay Bahadur Saud was chosen as the Third Vice President. Major Shamsher Kuver Mahesh will serve as the General Secretary, and Yadava Lal Shrestha was elected as the Deputy General Secretary. Other secretaries elected include Nischal Pokharel and Sher Bahadur Kuver. The Treasurer position went to Khint Bahadur Bhandari (Bharat), with Dan Bahadur Bogati serving as the Joint Treasurer.
Regional Leaders Announced
In addition to the national committee, the Federation also announced regional leadership. Prabhu Ram Shrestha was appointed as Bagmati Province Chief, Amrit Ghimire as Gandaki Province Chief, Chakra Pani Sharma as Lumbini Province Coordinator, and Lok Bahadur Balayar as Sudurpaschim Province Chief.
New Executive Committee Members
The election saw 30 new members appointed to the executive committee. Notable members include Dilli Bahadur Dangi, Ain Bahadur Raut, Bharat Bahadur Shah, Bam Bahadur Khadka, Laxman Saud, Kamal Prasad Shrestha, Dan Singh Bathaila, Bhimsen K.C., and many others. Outgoing president Prem Lal Shrestha will remain on the committee as an ex-officio member.
Commitment to National Expansion
Newly elected president Sharma shared his vision for the Federation. He emphasized the need for national expansion. Sharma stated that one of his key priorities would be uniting heavy equipment entrepreneurs under the Federation’s umbrella. He expressed his commitment to working continuously for the welfare of the business community. “We will follow a clear agenda and develop programs to support our members,” he added.
Government Support for the Heavy Equipment Sector
The event’s chief guest, Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, expressed the government’s support for the heavy equipment sector. He recognized the role of the sector in national infrastructure development. Despite challenges posed by the economic downturn, he remains optimistic about gradual improvements in the construction industry.
Stakeholders Call for Policy Changes
Ramesh Sharma, a senior advisor to the Federation of Contractors of Nepal, spoke about the need for policy reforms in the construction sector. He pointed out that certain government policies have hindered growth and called for urgent changes. Other industry leaders, such as Naradmani Hartamchhali and Punya Prasad Sitaula, also emphasized the importance of supporting the heavy equipment industry.
Recognition and Tributes
The convention also honored individuals who have contributed to the industry, including visual artists. Outgoing president Prem Lal Shrestha, senior vice president Umakanta Sharma, and General Secretary Suresh Khatri spoke on the Federation’s past accomplishments. They outlined the future direction and goals for the organization.
The Nepal Heavy Equipment Entrepreneurs’ Federation continues to play a significant role in advocating for the needs of the industry. With its newly elected leadership, the Federation is poised to further strengthen its influence and work towards the betterment of its members.
