Vianet Stands By Brand Ambassador SAMBA: NPR 5 Lakhs Pledged For Recovery
25th February 2026, Kathmandu
Leading internet service provider Vianet Communications has officially pledged NPR 5,00,000 (Five Lakhs) to support the medical treatment and recovery of Sabitra Bhandari, the iconic captain of the Nepalese National Women’s Football Team.
Vianet Stands Brand Ambassador SAMBA
The announcement comes as a vital boost for Bhandari, widely known by her nickname “Samba,” who is currently preparing for a complex knee surgery. As a long-standing brand ambassador for Vianet, Samba has been the face of the brand’s resilience and speed, qualities she is now drawing upon for her toughest battle off the pitch.
A Hero’s Journey to Recovery
Samba recently sustained a serious injury while playing for Wellington Phoenix in the Australian A-League, rupturing her previous ACL graft and damaging her MCL. After expressing frustration over the lack of administrative support from sports federations, her public appeal on February 23 sparked a nationwide movement, with millions of rupees raised within 24 hours.
Vianet’s contribution is a significant part of this corporate wave of support. In a statement, Vianet expressed their unwavering commitment to its ambassador:
“Samba has inspired millions of Nepalese with her performances on the international stage. As our brand ambassador and a national hero, we are honored to stand by her. We are confident in her resilience and look forward to seeing her iconic goal celebrations light up the field once again.”
Strengthening Nepal’s Sporting Spirit
The pledge from Vianet joins other major contributors, including United Cements, Chaudhary Group (CG), and Xtreme Energy Drink, as the private sector steps up where institutional support fell short. Bhandari, who has scored a record 68 goals for Nepal, is planning to undergo surgery at the world-class Aspetar Hospital in Qatar, where she received successful treatment for a similar injury in 2021.
The initiative by Vianet not only aids her financial requirements, estimated at approximately USD 80,000 for surgery and 8 months of rehabilitation, but also serves as a massive morale booster for the athlete and her millions of fans.
