Rapid advancement in artificial intelligence (AI) has a strong potential to bring about positive changes in our society.
Everyone is starting to feel the impact of giant companies like Facebook, Amazon, Google that mobilize AI technology at large scales.
Moreover, the role of AI in the progress of disciplines as varied as education, health, agriculture, urbanization, climate, social science, economics and security is starting to emerge. However, there are also emerging concerns regarding ethics and bias issues related to AI.
There is a severe lack of a workforce with strong foundations with an in-depth understanding of AI methods and knowledge in building robust tools in various applications. Similarly, many working professionals and faculties are not aware of and adapted to the rapidly evolving and recent developments of AI methods.
Therefore, for the students, working software and AI engineers, faculties teaching in Universities, entrepreneurs to develop skills in the field of AI, we (NAAMII) are organizing an 11-day course, “Third Nepal Winter School in AI,” from 20-30 December 2021 in Kathmandu valley. This is the third edition of the annual winter school in AI organized by NAAMII.
In the two previous editions, the school had attracted around 1000 applications, from which 300 participants from 20 countries were selected to participate.
The school has brought world-famous scientists, researchers, and professors working in some of the world’s leading universities and research institutes.
This year the event is being organized in hybrid mode, which means the speakers and participants will be both onsite in a lecture hall and can also attend remotely.
The main aim of the Third Winter School in AI is to equip the participants with theoretical and practical knowledge of different AI techniques that are used in day-to-day activities and complex research environments.
The school offers lectures on exciting topics, such as Artificial Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, Semi-supervised and Unsupervised Learning, Geometric Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, VAEs and GANs etc.
The winter school is open to all students, professionals, and academicians interested in learning about AI and its applications in diverse fields. Some math experience (calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics) and programming will help grab the contents of the lectures and lab sessions.
This winter school consists series of lectures, lab sessions, and scientific paper reading/writing sessions delivered by around 25 invited world-class experts.
Our speakers include researchers and faculties from leading universities and research labs such as Stanford, Imperial College London, UCL, ETH Zurich, etc., and scientists from NAAMII, a leading AI research institute in Nepal. Along with the intensive study plan, there are social events, such as hiking and a gala dinner, where participants will get ample opportunities to network with like-minded people.
The deadline for applying to “Third Nepal Winter School in AI” is 1st December 2021. Limited Scholarship seats are available only for full-time students who are not working in the industry. Women and Minority groups are highly encouraged to apply.
