World Development Information Day 2025: Empowering Growth Through Information and Technology
24th October 2024, Kathmandu
Today, October 24, the world observes World Development Information Day, first established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972.
Since then, this day has been marked every year to highlight the importance of information and communication in global development.
The day aims to raise awareness about the vital role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, fostering social inclusion, and addressing challenges of globalization.
ICT has become a powerful tool to accelerate development by creating opportunities, improving access to knowledge, and driving innovation in key sectors like education, health, agriculture, and employment.
In Nepal, initiatives in e-governance, digital education, online public services, and data access have contributed to transforming the development landscape.
These efforts are helping build a more digitally empowered and inclusive society.
The core message of World Development Information Day is clear: “Information and technology can lead us toward a sustainable and inclusive future.”
