World Telecommunication Day Being Marked Today

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is an international day proclaimed by the International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference in Antalya, Turkey in November 2006, which is observed on May 17 each year.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is being celebrated today with various programs. Netra Prasad Subedi, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Nepal informed that on the occasion of the day, the government is going to hold a program on telecommunications-related issues.

Similarly, Nepal Telecommunications Authority organized an event on telecommunication at Hotel Radisson this morning, according to the chairman of the authority, Purushottam Khanal. World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated every year since May 17, 1969.

With the growth of telecommunication, phone, mobile, and the internet have become the first needs of citizens in the modern era. It is difficult to imagine life without it.

Telecommunication Day celebrated with the slogan ‘Empowerment of least developed countries through information and communication technology’, has provided an opportunity for all citizens to connect with technology.
