World Tourism Day 2025: Nepal Highlights Private Sector’s Key Role in Tourism Growth
27th September 2025, Kathmandu
Nepal’s tourism industry remains a cornerstone of the national economy, and private sector involvement is proving to be the driving force behind its growth and promotion.
World Tourism Day 2025
Speaking on the occasion of World Tourism Day, Hari Prasad Mainali, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, highlighted the critical role of private stakeholders in shaping the future of Nepal’s tourism sector.
Government as a Facilitator, Private Sector as the Driver
Secretary Mainali emphasized that while the government acts as a regulatory and coordinating authority, the private sector remains at the forefront of actual tourism development.
“When we talk about Nepal’s tourism, it is the private sector that takes the lead,” he said. “The government functions as a regulator, facilitator, and coordinator, but private businesses and entrepreneurs handle the real execution and promotion.”
Focus on Policy Reforms and Coordination
Mainali pointed out that the ministry is prioritizing policy reforms, inter-governmental coordination, and institutional collaboration to create a stronger foundation for tourism. “We will focus on tourism development by coordinating efforts across all three levels of government, the private sector, and relevant agencies,” he explained.
He also highlighted the efforts of local, provincial, and federal governments in running various tourism-related programs. Agencies like the Nepal Tourism Board and other organizations directly and indirectly linked to tourism are working closely with the ministry to implement sustainable strategies.
Collaboration for Sustainable Growth
Secretary Mainali stressed that continuous dialogue and partnership with the private sector are essential for long-term success. “We are engaged in ongoing discussions with private stakeholders for tourism development,” he said. “Their support in policy dialogue and strategic planning is invaluable to advancing Nepal’s tourism.”
Key Takeaway
Nepal’s tourism potential is immense, but its success relies on a strong public-private partnership. With the government providing a supportive framework and the private sector leading innovation, the country is well-positioned to enhance its global competitiveness and attract more international visitors.
