Intense Competition Drives Growth
Data shows fierce competition among these companies to increase their customer base. Worldlink, surpassing even government-owned Nepal Telecom, currently leads the market. Two years ago, Worldlink attracted foreign investment. This made it the first internet company in Nepal to receive foreign funding, involving British International and Dolma Impact Fund.
Worldlink’s aggressive growth strategy has paid off, reflected in both customer numbers and revenue.
Worldlink’s Financial Growth
In 2024, Worldlink Communications reported revenue of NPR 1.1128 billion. This is a 7.7% increase from NPR 1.0332 billion in 2023. The revenue had been NPR 930.1 million in 2022. This growth was highlighted by the rating agency Care Rating Nepal.
Currently, Worldlink’s fiber network mainly covers urban areas. However, the company plans to expand fiber coverage to rural regions soon.
Nepal Telecom’s Position And Financial Status
Nepal Telecom, the second largest provider with 351,912 customers, remains a key player with government investment. Despite this, it has not reclaimed the top spot.
According to the 2082 Public Institution Annual Review, Nepal Telecom earned a retained profit of NPR 4.8032 billion, ranking first among public enterprises. However, the company’s net profit declined in recent years. In FY 2080/81, the net profit dropped by 21.34% to NPR 623.1 million from NPR 792.02 million in FY 2079/80.

Service Quality Concerns
Despite many providers, questions about internet quality remain common. Customers often complain about slow speeds and receiving less bandwidth than promised.
Frequent customer grievances about poor service have been reported. Unfortunately, many providers reportedly neglect these complaints, causing frustration among users.
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has faced criticism for its inability to penalize companies that cause customer inconvenience.
Summary
In summary, Nepal’s fixed broadband market is rapidly expanding with strong competition. Worldlink leads with over one million customers. Nepal Telecom follows with over 350,000 users, and Dish Media Network closely trails behind.
While customer numbers grow, challenges in service quality and regulatory enforcement persist. Providers continue investing in network expansion, especially in rural areas. Meanwhile, users demand better service and responsiveness.
