A spokesperson for Yatri Energy emphasized this point, stating, “Our platform will support multiple CPOs and handle both protocols because there’s already quite a lot of investment by many ventures on old protocol.”

- OCPP 1.6J, released in 2015, is a well-established version that supports essential functions like remote start/stop, status updates, and basic smart charging. Many of the existing public and private charging stations in Nepal likely use this protocol.
- OCPP 2.0.1, released in 2020, is a major upgrade. It introduces enhanced security features, improved device management, and more sophisticated smart charging capabilities. Importantly, it is also a prerequisite for advanced technologies like ISO 15118, which enables “Plug & Charge” where an EV can automatically authenticate and start a charging session just by being plugged in.
