In a significant stride towards improving access to clean water, 29 water supply projects have been successfully completed in Tanahu and Nawalpur districts during the fiscal year 2023/24.

29 Water Supply Projects Completed

According to the Water Supply and Sanitation Division Office, these projects are part of ongoing efforts to enhance water accessibility in rural areas of Nepal.

Key Projects Completed in Tanahu and Nawalpur

Out of the 29 completed projects, 19 were funded by the Gandaki Province Government in Tanahu and nine in Nawalpur. Additionally, one project in Tanahu was financed by the federal government. These projects were overseen by the Division Office and completed under the supervision of Engineer Binu Lohani.

These initiatives aim to improve the availability of clean and reliable water sources, which are critical for public health and sanitation in the region.

Ongoing Water Supply Projects in 2024

While the completion of these 29 projects marks a significant achievement, more work is underway. Currently, 215 carry-over water supply projects from the last fiscal year are under construction. These include 152 projects in Tanahu and 63 in Nawalpur, all funded by the Gandaki province government.

At the federal level, 53 projects in Tanahu and 21 in Nawalpur are being developed to expand access to clean water. Despite these efforts, several challenges, such as budget shortages and disputes over water sources, have delayed the completion of many projects.

Challenges in Project Completion

Engineer Binu Lohani pointed out that financial constraints and disputes regarding water sources are the primary reasons behind delays in the completion of ongoing projects. Resolving these issues is crucial to ensuring the timely delivery of clean water to households and communities in both districts.

Impact of Water Supply Projects on Local Communities

The completion of these water supply projects is expected to significantly improve the living conditions in Tanahu and Nawalpur by providing consistent access to clean water. These projects not only aim to reduce waterborne diseases but also improve sanitation and overall public health, benefiting thousands of families in these regions.

With more projects underway, local residents are hopeful that the government will overcome the existing challenges and continue to prioritize water infrastructure development.

Future Outlook for Water Supply in Tanahu and Nawalpur

As Nepal works towards achieving its sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of clean water and sanitation, the continued development of water supply infrastructure in provinces like Tanahu and Nawalpur is critical. The federal and provincial governments’ commitment to funding these projects demonstrates a strong resolve to address water scarcity and enhance public health across the country.

With consistent support and timely project completions, Tanahu and Nawalpur could serve as models for other regions struggling with water supply challenges, contributing to the overall development and well-being of Nepalese communities.
